Jashub's Journal is a Bible study embedded in a narrative story set early biblical times, after Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land. While following the everyday life of an Israelite family, the reader encounters situations covered by the laws taught by Moses. Each lesson contains a journal entry written by Jashub, the father of the family and a story, followed by a section where you look up one or more Bible passages related to the action in the story, and write down your findings according to Mosaic law.
The stories are ideal for reading aloud together, and the situations and their biblical solutions make for an interesting, if sometimes sobering discussion.
We found Jashub's Journal a good tool for family devotions. Learning about and discussing Mosaic Law during our Bible time has spilled into other areas of our family life. We often find ourselves reflecting on what we've learned, while listening to the news, or when one of us has done something on purpose or on accident to cause a problem for someone else. It has been good food for thought.
